About Meetings

  • Al-Anon Family Groups is a spiritual fellowship, not a religious one. Members of any faith or no faith are welcome. We make it a point to avoid discussion of specific beliefs. The Al‑Anon program is based on the spiritual idea that we can depend on a “power greater than ourselves” to help solve our problems and to  achieve peace of mind. We each define that power in our own way.

  • No appointment or registration is needed. Simply find a meeting and come. All are welcome.

  • There are no dues or fees in Al-Anon. Most groups pass the basket for voluntary contributions. You can donate a small amount, or not. There is no obligation at all.

  • All Al-Anon meetings are confidential. Anonymity is a basic principle in the Al-Anon program. You may speak if you choose, or remain silent.

  • There’s a program called Nar-Anon created specifically for friends and families of drug users, but a recent survey of Al-Anon members showed that 35% first came to Al-Anon because of a loved one’s drug abuse. They continue to attend because  their lives became better. We urge you to investigate all resources, but you are always welcome to try Al-Anon meetings and see if they feel right for you.

  • Alcoholics have often grown up in homes where alcohol was abused and find the issues we discuss all too familiar. They are welcome. In fact, many people attend both fellowships, but AA–not Al-Anon–is the fellowship in which to achieve and maintain sobriety.
