Al-Anon families of alcoholics New York

Greater New York Al-Anon Family Intergroup, Inc. is the local information service for the five boroughs of New York City. Intergroup provides the following services:

  1. Takes the Calls - Intergroup maintains phones, staffed by Al-Anon volunteers, which people may call to find Al-Anon meetings in the New York City area or get general information about the program. Most people find their way to their first Al-Anon meeting by calling the Intergroup office.
  2. Supplies Organizational and Program Information - As a Literature Distribution Center, Intergroup maintains a stock of AL-Anon approved literature for groups and individuals. Intergroup also publishes a list of meetings held in the New York City area, and maintains this web site which is approved by the Al-Anon World Service office (headquarters).
  3. Carries the AL-Anon Message to the Larger Community - Intergroup provides speakers and information to social service agencies, schools and other organizations to acquaint the general public with the work of Al-Anon.
  4. Holds Intergroup Representative Meetings - Intergroup holds quarterly meetings attended by all the Intergroup Representatives (volunteers elected by their groups), to exchange pertinent information and to discuss group issues.
  5. Sponsors Al-Anon Events - Intergroup sponsors an annual all-day Spring Workshop, with meetings on a wide variety of topics, and may hold other events where members come together in fun and fellowship.
  6. Publishes a Newsletter - As a service to the groups, Intergroup publishes "The Reporter," with local activities and articles of interest to groups and individual members in the New York area.

New York Intergroup has a Board of Trustees and two staff members to help provide the services described above. It relies greatly on the help of volunteers at every level to carry on this work. Al-Anon members who are interested in contibuting their time and effort are encouraged to volunteer.

Intergroup is supported solely by the contributions of Al-Anon groups and individual members, and by the proceeds of several annual fund-raising activities. In addition, Intergroup realizes a small profit from the sale of Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature.
